UPDATE 12/22: See comment #3 below. Apparently nothing happened at all. It was just some poor technician trying to fix a 14-year-old machine. But that raises the question of why a computer from 1990 is being used in an electronic voting system?
This just in from the Ohio recount: David Cobb, the 2004 Green Party candidate for President, told the House Judiciary Committee on Monday that a witness watched a Triad Governmental Systems, Inc. employee tamper with voting equipment and try to convince election workers to post false recount numbers.
The Blue Lemur has the full story.
Not that it matters at this point, since the Ohio delegates have already cast their votes for Bush. The electoral college met yesterday in each state’s capital to cast their votes. The votes are sealed and delivered to the U.S. Secretary of State, and will be opened and read before Congress when the session convenes in January. But maybe for the next election, we can find some way to reduce or eliminate the sort of widespread fraud which took place this year.
And does this Triad company have a Web presence or are they some sort of shadow organization? What does anyone know about them?

Just found this: Triad Governmental Systems, Inc.. They guy who runs it has this website: http://www.rapps.org/. Golaith also has some info on them. Apparently the owner is a contributer to the RNC and the Bush campaign.
Yes, this totally sucks. As I’ve said before, the only real way to fix it is to kick these suckers out, and a) go back to a more "tried-and-true" method (aka optical scan, like we do here in Oregon), or b) use OpenVoite.
Nice blog, by the way. Can you possible increase the size of this comment field? All those long URLs make it hard to see my text.

And the rest of the story…
No Evidence of Tampering
It’s easy to jump to conclusions and make unsubstantiated claims when a news item apparently supports your preconcieved ideas. I guess it’s another thing to post a retraction when your claim has been found to be erroneous.
