Blog safely and anonymously

May 11, 2005 @ One Comment

A lot of people have been fired for blogging lately. It all started with Delta Air Lines fired Ellen Simonetti. OK, well, it didn’t start there, but hers was the first widely publicized story.

The fact is, right now there is almost no legal protection against losing your job if you blog.

If you intend to write about your employer, or other sensitive topics, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has released a guide to blogging safely and anonymously.

I suggest starting a second blog using their suggestions to keep yourself anonymous and safe, especially if you are involved in activities such as whistleblowing, unionizing, criticizing company or government policy, etc., and keeping your normal public blog “normal” and not at all linked to your other blog.
