Is medical marijuana too easy to get in California?

June 15, 2005 @ 16 Comments

After last week’s Supreme Court ruling on medical marijuana, the state of California has been taking a hard look at medical marijuana programs in the state. In order to purchase medical marijuana in California, you must have a doctor’s recommendation. The same if you want to sell it.

Well, apparently, it’s just a little too easy to get a doctor’s recommendation.

“It’s a huge scam,” said [San Francisco Police] Captain [Rick] Bruce, who heads the city’s Bayview station, which covers some of the highest-crime neighborhoods. “We see guys coming out of these places, and the only description I can come up with is that it looks like a Cheech and Chong movie. They are what you would call your traditional potheads; whether they have a medical condition beyond that is subject to debate.” — New York Times

It seems that drug dealers have been getting doctor’s recommendations and then when they get busted with however many pounds of the stuff, claim it’s medical marijuana, and the problem has only gotten worse.

The state is proposing new regulations on medical marijuana dispensaries, as well as a state ID card system for people who purchase medical marijuana. San Francisco already issues a medical marijuana ID card which can be used in most of the Bay Area.

The Times article featured the Green Cross dispensary in San Francisco, which is currently fighting to keep its permit.

I think the remedy to this problem is for the government to stop acting l
like god in thinking it has the authority to enforce a pointless low on
grown men and women who choose to smoke marijuana, which is no worse then c
cigarettes, alcohol, caffine, and the millions of other over the counter and
and prescription drugs we can take all day. Every drug I named is more
dangerous to peoples health than medical marijuana.

This is not true. If the weed is broken up in any way that is different from what they purchased (ie: broken up into individual 8ths, garms, ounces, etc) The cops have grounds to arrest for intent to sell.

Cops stil have ways to tell if you are on your way to sell it to some people

If God created marijuana we should have the right to use. When I say the pledge to the flag (one nation under god) I should have the right to use what god created for us. As a user with the ok from my doctor I feel Discriminated by the nation of laws created to outlaw marijuana. Check out http://www.righttouse.com

Marijuana is almost a miracle plant. It’s organic. The damage it does to ones health is basically non existant. It treats so many things including headaces, low appetite, insomnia, depression, arthritis, pain, etc. Not to mention that it’s proven to not be addictive. The Native Americans used it for communion. Some buddhist use it for meditation. And, the forefathers of America all owned their private cannabis fields.
When you watch commercials for certain pharmaceuticals they list off endless amounts of side effects. Cigarettes and Perscription pills are ten times worse for your body than marijuana is.
Economically, we could do away with fossil fules by extracting the oil from cannabis. It wouldn’t take long either, cannabis is one of the fastest growing plants in the world.
The pros of this plant outnumber its cons, endlessly.
And dangerous drug dealers deal an array of more hazardous things than medical marijuana. This plant was created by God and not a scientist or some tweeker in a shed.

Weed is legal…..think about one of the main reasons that the US wont make it legal cause there wouldnt be anyway to tax it and wouldnt make a profit…..but oohhh the sneaky government tricked us because the best weed is medical and since they make it pretty easy to get a licence……. sooo ur paying the government for weed which they tax and making a nice profit off it……

Weed is just Good… It’s HOly and It should be my choice whether I want to smoke it or NOT. I think if your a haiter you are just going to hate anyways, but if your NOT and you still don’t think you should smoke weed then you definitly had a bad experience or something. To those I suggest you come and smoke with me and I blow your mind…. Halla

the only people who say weed is bad are people who havent tried it and grew up being taught that it was bad or immoral or something stupid like that. there is nothing wrong with it except it causes some memory loss. there is also the cancer factor but cigarettes are the same. there are no legitimate reasons that weed should be illegal.

btw, please please please dont use the “god created it so i can smoke it,” argument. that is soo stupid i cant even begin to say everything that is wrong with that

how rude of you people to want to abuse something that should only be used to people who have no other choice but to use medical marijuana because other pain medication hasnt worked for them.

People should be able to smoke up regardless of whether or not they have a medical condition. It’s a bullshit excuse for people to get high. Why not pop some e’s? shoot up some heroin? Let’s just legalize the lot for medical use, I’m sure any drug is going to make the pain go away, right? Marijuana is less harmful than tobacco and alcohol. Weed should be legal for all to enjoy. I know I’d rather smoke a joint than put back a 6 pack.
