(I’m experimenting with a new format for links of interest when news stories are updated. Let me know what you think.)
Some quick updates to recent news stories covered here. Surprisingly low on stupidity today! Or is it?
- The Department of Homeland Security has promised to help Arizona with its border emergency. As usual they’re vague on what they actually plan to do. (Associated Press)
- Police are just getting plain violent these days. The Utah rave bust is the most recent example, but others have surfaced. Watch this video of a cop who gave a fast food clerk a $10, and then came back and tried to say it was a $20. (The Agitator, Hammer of Truth)
- Hawaii bucks the trend of setting minimum gas prices and sets a wholesale price cap on gas. The cap is linked to wholesale spot prices on the mainland. Oil companies say the price cap will hurt consumers by threatening supply. (AP)

As mentioned in IRC, I don’t disagree that a lot of this (i.e. the second bullet), that whoever is controlling this blasphemy needs to but demoted to janitorial service.
If there’s no one controlling (i.e. the fast food clip) that cop needs to be kicked off the force. He had absolutely no legal right to do anything he did in the building itself.
Counter-point:
Police are getting violent because of the media. We see lots and lots of cop brutality. Does it exist?
Yes
Is that all there is to it? Hell, freaking, no.
The times I’ve been pulled over, I don’t have complaints about most of it.
Sure, I’m angsty that I got pulled over, but what about things like personal accountability, eh?
I did something wrong, I paid the price.
I was never brutalized, and I’m greatful.
In fact, the cops that pulled me over for (1) dead license plate light (2) busted tail light were RESPECTFUL.
It’s really an amazing thought that you EARN respect, not demand it, and a WHOLE NEW WORLD opens up to you.
[/soapbox]
Long story short.
Utah Rave breakup: Wow, wow.
Fast food pepper spray: Wow, WOWOWOWOWOW.
These situations are absolutely deplorable.
But remember, these are not the actions of all of the cops nation-wide. These are the actions of a few sick individuals doing the wrong thing.
