Republication and syndication

I discovered yesterday that an article I wrote a week ago was republished in full at two different sites. Since I provide only a summary feed, I was a little surprised. Not that I mind, but given the state of the U.S., there are a few courtesies I would appreciate if you plan to reuse my content, in whole or in part.

Original content appearing here is copyrighted on the date appearing on the individual post and you are free to reuse it subject to the terms of the license. Please ensure that you provide a prominent link back to the original article here as well.

On occasion a post here may contain excerpts from other sources which may be under different copyrights. They appear here under the U.S. fair use doctrine, as is common across the Internet. You’ll notice such sources are clearly delineated and linked back to the original source. Please keep the original delineation and link back to the original source, out of respect for those sources.

Please do not send a trackback if you republish or resyndicate. (However, if you’re writing original postings, and citing and linking to articles here, feel free to trackback.)

On that note, a couple of people are complaining about the summary feed, and want a full-content feed instead. This seems to be something nobody can agree on, and I’m a little torn on offering the full-content feed. The last time I did, someone began reposting all of my content at another site, without attribution, credit or any sort of acknowledgement. I don’t really want that to happen again if I can avoid it, but at the same time I would like to have an answer for those who want full-content feeds. What do you think?

I recommend that you switch to a full content feed, unless you are concerned about ad revenue. You can use Angsuman’s Feed Copyrighter plugin to ensure that a copyright and credit/attribution notice is included with all of your posts.
