Former District of Columbia mayor Marion Barry was robbed at gunpoint on Monday night, and while he got his wallet and credit cards back, he revealed to the press that he’s still a complete idiot.
Washington, D.C. has a ban on handguns within the city, which as you should expect, means that only criminals have handguns.
Barry, who served four terms as mayor of the city and one six-month term in prison for possession of cocaine, is now a Ward 8 councilman.
“Violence is everywhere in our city and our nation,” Barry told the Associated Press. “These guns have got to go.”
Okay, now for the stupid part. Barry wants only the criminals to have guns!
Barry vowed not to move from his home in the council district he represents. But he said he will push for tougher gun control laws. Last session he offered a bill mandating a 10-year sentence for those caught with a gun. So far, a hearing has not been scheduled, but Barry hopes to see action on it this year. — Associated Press
There’s an old saying that dates back more than 100 years: If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. We’re seeing that play out in cities all over the U.S. where guns are available only to criminals. It’s time to do something about it, and banning guns is clearly the wrong thing to do. The right thing, of course, is what Florida and Texas have done: allow almost anyone to own and carry a gun. Crime rates in those states have dropped tremendously since passing those measures, since criminals there know that now their victims might shoot back.
Props to Hammer of Truth.
Update January 11: I told you he was smoking crack. The drug test proves it.

Thanks to former Massachusetts AG Scott Harshbarger, Massachusetts denies most all gun permits outside of shotguns or rifles for hunting.
Meantime our crime rates climb, according to newly re-elected Boston mayor, Tom Menino.

That’s the only plank in the Republican platform I support: no gun control. I live in Florida (which has a shall-issue CCW permit law).

Based off Tony’s comment… why can states over rule the second amendment? I never really thought about that.
Is it just, that they restrict guns, like, outside of the home? Or what?

Jason, they legally can’t. But that doesn’t stop them from doing it anyway. Someone would actually have to challenge it in court, and the current Supreme Court cannot be trusted to uphold the Constitution. In fact, they can be counted on to rule contrary to it.
