I’ve been seeing the Internal Revenue Service in the news a lot lately, for one reason or another. Here are three things the IRS was caught doing this week.
- The IRS has been illegally freezing the tax refunds of people it suspects of fraud, according to a report released by the nation’s taxpayer advocate. The IRS says it’s done nothing wrong.
- The IRS has been denying legitimate FOIA requests for detailed information on the number and types of audits that it conducts on taxpayer returns, according to papers filed in court. The IRS says it’s done nothing wrong.
- The IRS has been collecting the party affiliation of taxpayers who are registered voters in 20 different states. The IRS says it’s done nothing wrong.
See a pattern here?

Great wrapup. I wasn’t aware of the political party angle — thanks.
