I hope that after the worst president we've ever had leave office, the next president will offer Lt. Swift's job back to him.

We need truth-tellers like him to protect the most important thing we have: the rule of law.

To Brian:

Once you've read the bill (as I have, and I presume the blogger, Michael, has) it ceases to be particularly interesting to dissect it from a legal standpoint. Rather, as reading the bill progresses, and your sense of horror increases, writings such as this one take on a power they could have never had alone.

Read the bill, and then call this post 'merely whining.' I believe you'll look at it differently.

To be fair, I do recognize where you're coming from. The honest legal analysis is absolutely invaluable. But a dry legal analysis was not the purpose of this post, I think.

We have reached far beyond the realm where a rational balance of the issues is of any merit. When people begin to realize all they're holding onto is a fraying thread, little other is possible than an emotional plea.

Rather than providing the highly emotional letter from Olbermann, could you provide a link to the bill and some libertarian legal analysis pointing out which sections violate the U.S. Constitution and how they take away our civil liberties? There is absolutely nothing in this article detailing fact; it nothing but whining. While it may be a valid cry, it is just a blubber nonetheless.

I do not want to come across as flag waver for this act but there is little analysis nor new ideas that may address the problem we have with captured terrorist.

How should we deal with capture foreign (non US Citizens) terrorist, as criminal or fighters? I would really like to read your legal opinion.

Thank you for this information. May I email just this article's contents to my friends along with this web address? I would not be asking if I did not agree with this and want to spread it far and wide.

It is amazing how absolute power corrupts absolutely. King George W Bush indeed!
