The situation in the UK is further complicated by the fact that - as I'm sure you and most of your readers will be aware - the UK does not have the same constitutional guarantee of the freedom of speech and our libel laws are very much more open to abuse than yours in the US - witness the Irving/Lipstadt trial, where Irving took the action in London for a book published in the US. That is not to say that truth is not a defence: Irving was squashed like a bug and deservedly so. All of that said, I had hoped that my post was more "considered" than "passionate": it's just that any sensible analysis of this topic can really only come out as a sound bug-squashing Toulmin and that toe-rag Campbell.
