If only large corporate trucking companies can afford this, then perhaps it is better that they do and the private driver and independent owner-operator get out of the habit of relying on government business.

The TSA is really sucking up to the Republicans and their business partners.

Make the employers pay for the badges. Or the TSA can pay for the badges.

And guess what happens when the chip isn’t working?

Trucker hands over card, reader doesn’t beep
TSA Agent: Dammit, we just had this fixed.
TSA Agent looks at the card and its holder, decides they look the same and tells him to go ahead and not worry about it.

And that makes it no more difficult to force than an ordinary piece of plastic.
