since we're deporting all the people who are here illegally and their children, we should star deporting all the white people who've been hanging around since the 1500s

You make some good points, Michael. It is WAYYYY to hard to come to this country legally. It is interesting to hear all of the people who decry the subculture of "Mexicans" among the American population, but do not want to give these people an opportunity to BECOME Americans.

But, as a country, do we want "temporary workers", or do we want citizens? To me this is the fundamental question. We can and should make it easy to become a citizen when immigrating from just about anywhere (I DO think English proficiency should be a requirement).

HOWEVER, we need to make it hard to become an illegal immigrant, and even harder to come here just to work or study, but never to become part of America. Any thoughts on how to achieve these goals?
