You have to prove who you are, of course; but how do you do that? After all, that's the problem the cards seek to remove! So, what have the government proposed? Simple! You take your existing ID, the apparently horrifyingly insecure methods of identification (passports, driving licenses, utility bills, etc.). So, anyone who's able to forge or steal those—which, let's face it, is anyone over the age of five—is able to get an ID card in your name. Madness!
