I agree that we shouldn't let the government stockpile much information about us, as they have proven themselves unworthy guardians of such information. Needless to say that you will never recover totally. Institutions with personal information should be audited by external sources ( to avoid the "I will look the other way syndrome") and if not compliant, they should shut down that non-compliant section till corrected. Unfortunately in a lot of these cases, technology overan the User leaving holes for vulnerabilities ( In common language : Too much Ferrari for the driver ). Recovering from ID Theft is a lengthy,tedious and exhausting process . Needless to say that you will never recover totally.
