[...] A broad coalition of groups from all across the political spectrum had come together to urge citizens to tell DHS to shove REAL ID, which they did in spades. The department said it had received over 12,000 comments during the 60-day comment period on its draft regulations which ended yesterday, and that the comments were mixed. Comments at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday were more negative. The chairman, Senator Patrick J. Leahy, Democrat of Vermont, complained that security rules were supposed to be “smart as well as tough” and predicted that state motor vehicle departments would not be able to cope with the requirements, which include verifying all documents presented by applicants. Even renewals will require birth certificates or other proof of legal residence. And the change will impose billions of dollars in costs on states and localities, Mr. Leahy and others said.
[...] According to the poll of 5,932 adults, conducted from April 13-16, 2007, 70 percent of Americans support the REAL ID Act, which would require states to issue driver licenses and identification cards that conform to federal standards in order to have those cards recognized by the federal government. Only 24 percent were opposed to the act. But 52 percent said they would oppose a national ID that contained biometric information, such as fingerprints. [...]

[...] The federal REAL ID Act, passed in 2005, requires states to issue driver licenses and identification cards which conform to federal standards, or the federal government will not accept them. But compliance is expected to cost over $11 billion to start, and billions more over the following five years, leading some states to reject the program as an unfunded mandate. [...]

[...] REAL ID, that bitter pill which will further centralize identification of virtually every American, not to mention cost you untold billions of dollars, is so tough to swallow that many states are balking at it. But one state is eagerly accepting REAL ID after the Department of Homeland Security held out a carrot along with its sharp stick. [...]

[...] This isn’t the first time Homeland Security officials have made the perverse claim that REAL ID would protect Americans’ security. Secretary Michael Chertoff said the same thing March 1 while announcing the regulations states will have to follow in order to make their driver licenses and ID cards compliant with the act.
I think that we will have World War III followed by a civil war. At that point the country goes back to it's roots or we have salvery for three generations. I think that we must get copies of the Citizens Rule Book to each and ever person we know. They will not listen until it is too late. I do not think that we can go back slowly as I had hoped before. The ID card would make Hilter proud.
I read a book called Storm Warning that is easy reading IF you can get someone to read it. You can only get it at 1-800-525-9556 ext 144 for $15 including postage. Private published. It covers how the ID cards will be used. There will be three of them and then go to the implant. It is Christian based. Check it out.

[...] Reality, Real ID, and You: The ACLU calls it a Real Nightmare. Wired calls it an internal passport. The good news is that the deadline for states to implement a de-facto Federal ID has been pushed back, giving everyone time to fight this thing. Even better, the actual implementation rules have been released, so we can all quote chapter and verse on what this thing does and does not say.
