Why I gave Ron Paul $100

April 18, 2007 @ Michael Hampton32 Comments

In the interest of full disclosure I will say that earlier today I contributed $100 to the Presidential campaign of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

And while I certainly don’t agree with every single thing Ron Paul has ever said, nor with every single position he holds, I feel at this time that he’s better than any of the other candidates I’ve seen so far from any of the three parties.

While not covered by the media nearly as much as his supporters would like, and perhaps a lot more than other candidates’ supporters would like, Ron Paul still enjoys significant grassroots support from real live human beings, ordinary people who think the government has gone too far and needs to be reined in, rather than the corporate interests and billionaire megalomaniacs who fund the rest of the Republicans and Democrats.

As for the Libertarians, it looks like George Phillies is the front runner there, and I’m not at all happy with him. He supports the Federal Reserve System which has been the means and method of our enslavement. Ron Paul has called for the Federal Reserve to be abolished.

The Democrats are probably going to put Hillary forth. Barack Obama pulled a Howard Dean yesterday and his race is about over, even if he hasn’t figured it out yet.

That leaves Ron Paul versus the big government fascists who have taken over the Republican Party, much to the disappointment of many mainstream conservatives, for whom neocon is a four letter word.

So one of Ron Paul’s supporters put forth a 100 for $100 pledge, where “I will donate $100 to the Ron Paul for President campaign but only if 100 other people will do the same.” You can still pledge your name, even though the 100th person signed earlier today, raising a cool $10,000.

And with the success of the pledge, someone else has set their sights higher and started a 200 for $200 pledge to raise $40,000 for Ron Paul’s campaign: “I will pledge 200 dollars to Ron Paul for President 2008 but only if 199 other people will pledge 200 Dollars.” Four people have already signed up.

Ron Paul supporters here in New Hampshire have also put together an unofficial grassroots campaign site where anyone can get more information. I’m happy to say that I have met some of the people behind this site and Ron Paul’s grassroots support here and find them absolutely committed to the principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility and strictly limited government on which this country was founded and supposed to operate.

That’s why I gave Ron Paul $100. I’ll probably give him $200 more in the next month or two, adding my name to the latter pledge. But keep in mind, my political contributions are my own. They don’t necessarily reflect the views of anyone else who reads this site, even if those people have contributed money here, nor anyone else who writes here.

We’re all unique individuals, despite the collectivists’ attempts to pigeonhole, label and group us. As such, we are bound to disagree from time to time on various issues. But I hope we can all agree that being the captains of our own souls is far preferable to having our lives centrally planned by the bureaucracy being prepared for us by those who pretend to care.

You can contribute to Ron Paul’s campaign at his official campaign site.

I also donated $100 a couple weeks ago. I just couldn’t sit this election out without helping a true, rare representative of the people who cares about liberty. Otherwise I won’t be able to tell my grandkids that I actually tried to help the situation instead of being another clueless american who traded his liberty for “bread and circuses”.

I just donated the primary maximum to Ron Paul. I have never done that before for any politician, not even close. Ron Paul is an honorable man.

I donated today myself…There is really no one else to support…agree with him or not, he is a man of truth…maybe not your “truth” but he isn’t sold out. He is a huge breath of fresh air! – I hope the rest of you will donate to him too…I must be a loser…I just put up a video about him on youtube.com (radiofriendly)

Good show. I feel cheap, only gave $25. But then it’s my first ever political contribution and I’m old. I’m so pleased Ron Paul is running.

I’m a UK citizen. I’ve never lived in the USA. I will donate $100 to the Ron Paul presidential campaign because the only person that will save the world from enslavement by NeoCon fascists and the international banking cartels is Ron Paul. I can only hope that at the very least, a sizeable minority of the American people will realize that the Federal Reserve system must be destroyed. Further, I hope that Ron Paul isn’t assassinated because I absolutely believe they will try to kill him if there is any likelyhood he will be the next President of the USA.

    God bless you Ron Paul

Thanks! Unfortunately, federal law prohibits foreign nationals from contributing directly to candidates in a federal election. I’m not sure what’s the best thing for you to do with your $100 (what is that, about £49 today?) but perhaps you could contact the campaign and see if they have any ideas.

I have and plan to donate 40.00 dollars a month until he’s won this thing. Ron Paul 2008!

The Constitution Party is polling on their website for a candidate to run in 2008, Ron Paul is leading in their poll.

Also I’ve heard the Libertarian Party may back him as well.

Let both of these parties know they should join the

The foreign national question makes me wonder, how many in this world would love to see America get out of the buisness of medling?

Maybe we should create a PAC for foreign nationals to contribute to? I am not a big fan of allowing foreign influence in American elections, however when a significant portion of America seems to be intent on eating itself it might be the only way.

Maybe the Globe Against Globalisim. Hmm…. GAG maybe a better name but you get the idea.

My first contribution ever to a presidental politican was Ron Paul. He is a real underdog in this election process, but USA happened because of a bunch of underdogs against the british. I feel its time the underdogs win their country again.

Thank you for introducing me to another option in this maddening race. While I can’t jump behind him without additional research, I am excited to learn more and increase my involvement with the political process.

I really like Ron Paul. I read his weekly posts on his blog about fiscal matters and individual liberties. I only wish he had a chance at actually getting enough votes to really make a run for it. Having said that, I am not sure about his ability to fight against militant Islam.

I just donated to the Ron Paul presidential campaign, not because I think he can win, but because this election gives him an outlet to explain to the American people the ideas of freedom and liberty. Of course I want him to win, but donating to keep him in the debates, keep him in the media, and keep his message in the public eye is worth every penny.

I have been told by many that Ron Paul cannot win and perhaps I should choose the lesser Evil. I am sure many here have been told the same. You know the answer to that provided by a very wise man who is will go unnamed? The answer is “It does not matter. This is less a fight for America and more a fight for my individual soul.” This is my fight and I am supporting Ron Paul for my sake. So all Y’all Naysayers. Bugger off. I am doing this for me.

Picking the lesser of 2 evils is when there is no better candidate to choose from. From my view point Ron Paul is not evil, so this makes for an easy decision. One must vote Ron Paul.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if the American Government just said they were sorry to all these countries they messed up and started over.

Ron Paul’s integrity inspired me to contribue $500 to his campaign. Also, I changed my voter registration from Independent to Republican so I can vote for the Hon. Ron Paul in the republican primaries. I’m also encouraging my friends to do the same…for America’s sake.

I am 60 years old and this is my first contribution to a presidential campaign, as it is for so many others who have written in. I have been following Ron Paul for many years and have always thought he was the best one in Washington!! I think of it as a monthly bill, just about everyone can afford $10. a month. I just bought a Ron Paul for President hat last week. I don’t have it yet but I know a lot of people are going to say “Who’s Ron Paul?’ when they see the hat. It’s a great way to advertise his name tell people who he is and what he stands for. He is the only hope if the USA is to survive.

Catherine, God bless you! I am 38 and just donated $100 to Ron Paul’s campaign last week: This is the first time I have found someone I WANT to vote for (instead of against), let alone made a donation to!

I only heard about him last week, I’m amazed and delighted that DC has at least one principled man there. He’s our only hope!

Great idea about the hat. I’d better get myself a snug t-shirt: I’ve been blessed/cursed with a large bust that always attracts attention, I may as well put it to good use! ;)

Your words about foreign nationals is incorrect. Foreign nationals can donate.

“2. I am a United States citizen or a lawfully-admitted permanent resident. If a foreign national, I have permanent resident status and hold a green card.”
