If you’re an American reading this, then under expansive definitions being used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and several states in their counterterrorism training, you just might be a domestic terrorist.
The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force in Phoenix, Ariz., distributed a brochure (Images: 1, 2) to local law enforcement agencies a few years ago which defines terrorism as individuals or groups within the U.S. who engage in criminal activity to promote political or social changes. This is correct, as far as it goes, but the brochure then gives a listing of “suspicious” activities, telling law enforcement officers: “If you encounter any of the following, call the Joint Terrorism Task Force.”
Some of the things for which you should be reported as a suspected terrorist include the usual things, like weapons of mass destruction, and hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and Neo-Nazis, but also includes people who “Make numerous references to US Constitution,” “Claim driving is a right, not a privilege” and “Attempt to ‘police the police.’”
In addition, “People whose political motivation is usually Marxist/Leninist philosophy,” “‘defenders’ of the US Constitution against federal government and the UN,” computer hackers, and “Lone Individuals” should also be reported.
Do you fall under any of those categories? I certainly do; more than one, in fact. So I’m probably under suspicion somewhere as a domestic terrorist.
Last week, the state of Alabama Department of Homeland Security got scrutinized for an interactive terrorism awareness training section of its Web site, which said much the same things. The bureaucrats removed the entire training after it wound up on digg.com, a popular Web site where users can promote news to the site’s front page.
In Alabama, it seems, promoting gun rights can also get you branded a domestic terrorist.
Alabama’s site was based on a similar one from the state of Pennsylvania, which in addition to all of the above, says that promoting jury nullification, secession, or the belief that all governments must ultimately become corrupted by power also makes you a domestic terrorist worth watching.
But it gets worse.
But you see, I once read Unintended Consequences and was quite impressed with the book. Then one day I attended a FBI security briefing for technology security and was confronted with an image of the book — strongly implying those who own or read the book were terrorists.
But now I find I’m considered a terrorist by many other government agencies! Seriously, I wonder when I shall be arrested and “Detained.” . . .
The state of Virginia also says I’m a terrorist. (PDF) Why there? Because I’m a “property rights advocate.” Seriously, in Virginia, you’re a TERRORIST if you advocate for property rights. I think they’re going to need to build more jails to house us all. . . .
Incredibly, none of this is in jest. These various government agencies honestly believe *I* am a “domestic terrorist.” That is so sad. Indeed, this once-great country has nowhere to go but down. — Ogre’s Politics & Views
Ogre also put together a nice interactive quiz which you can use to determine if you are a domestic terrorist. I scored a 70, which apparently means there’s a cell with my name on it in Guantanamo Bay.
So in keeping with my mandate to make fun of government stupidity, I’m offering these web banners so you can identify yourself as a domestic terrorist on your own Myspace, blog or Web site. Just copy and paste the code for the one you want.

Virginia is the most evil and backward state in the union. The only thing the union army did wrong was not bomb northern Virginia into an uninhabitable crater. The state government of VA is an expert at how to run your life and take away your freedoms, be they property rights, 4th ammendment rights, free speech rights, and an endless array of other freedoms. It will take a Lincolnesque type President in the future to restore our once great country and the freedoms that have been stripped away from us. Mike, you are right on with your commentaries about our country once being great but in decline. For those who have studied Ancient Rome and the decline of the Roman Empire, the similarities are frightening. The self-delusional capabilities of our government leaders, workers,DHS, and most Federal and local law enforcement personnel is so beyond scary that it is impossible to find the right adjectives. Their self-rightesnous, didactic ways, and strong arming via the “law”, are something I never thought could happen to the USA. One day the people of this country will be forced to rise up as we slowly but surely slip towards a police state.

what the government is capable of is much worse than what you present here. consider just for a moment what would happen if the government had complete access to your entire ISP records, or your phone calls (cell, landline, skype, etc). consider just for a moment what would happen if the government had complete access to your credit card purchases, your health information, your friends, your neighbors, your salary, ….
now realize that they actually do have complete access to all of that and much, much more. nothing in your life is private beyond what you do off the grid and behind closed doors. however, you can take comfort in the fact that the government doesn’t really care about you until you either miss a payment, break a law, or appear to match a certain profile.

You think freedom should only be given by the state to people who agree with the state. . which couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes they CAN detain anyone they feel like. I’m surprised how people don’t seem scared of that. Or maybe not – the people is famous for only recognizing post-threat fascism too late.
That’s what is happening. 9/11 was the threat, the terrorism problem, whether it was inside or outside job, I don’t know. What happens after is, the country becomes a fear mongering police state where everyone is guilty until proven innocent. Individual privacy is lost. People are detained and questioned without trial because of something they think, something they said, considered subversive for whatever reason, according to them, or something they can’t even control, like their name.
A lot of people still don’t realize that’s not the future. It’s the present.
RFID chips would be the last nail in the coffin of freedom – “if you don’t do anything wrong, you have nothing to fear” right? Well who’s deciding what is “wrong”? Not you.

Well, we brazilians are also americans. Sadly, time has come to opt out. Me thinks -we can’t write anything grammatically correct- Saddam succeeded on most counts, remember “Mother of all Wars”? Saddam doesn’t even need to fight, he lured the enemy out and now it’ll self-destruct. Well done! America going down, I repeat going down! Mayday! Mayday!
I’m afraid noone will/can help. Not because there is no willingness, no. American values gave birth to the world as we know it, and in it a sense of justice with a human face.
But now the U.S. finds itself in an identity crisis, ironically following the footsteps of its old cold-war adversary, the Soviet Union. The only question seems to be how deep the U.S. will go under and how much of what it established, it’ll drag down with it.
A madman is tolerable, can make us laugh and can even educate. A madman with a gun however makes everybody nervous. And now governments give you and many others a hand-granade with the safety pin pulled. And wait to see who’ll turn into a terrorist. It’ll come down on them and score points for their paranoid profile. Wow, that’s a great heroic service to humanity :-(
I wished GW would have remembered the souls of those who died on 9/11. No war can bring them back.
I wished no war on terrorism would have been declared. The terrorists be caught by international law, not by lust for power.
All of this can -of course- still be done. I wish GW the courage to do so and correct the Mistake he was bound to make as the Son Of. It’ll turn things ’round.
America is *not* the Babylon of the biblic Apocalypse, though it currently seems set on convincing those who are willing to believe so. We need America to admit failure and with that get ready, focus and lead the effort to save the planet.
Despite everything I believe that is the president the American people vote(d) for.
Let the American People get out from under the (republican) spell and mind of power and regain a christian footing. God bless America.

I only got 15% on the linked quiz. I’m obviously not a terrorist. I support individual rights, to an extent, but really these questions are ridiculous. Like the one about driving is a right. Are you serious? Driving is a privilege, not a right. Why would it be a right that we have? And driving without plates or a valid driver’s license? That is straight up breaking the law.
Individuality is a great thing don’t get me wrong, but one needs to follow the laws to keep things running smoothly. People work much better as a team, a solitary unit rather than everyone running around doing their own thing.

And as for talking about the Constitution… busted! I even write my Congressman and Senator about the Constitution. I blog about it daily and have links to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence on my blog as well.
Wow am I ever in trouble… by the way, are these counter terrorists planning to exhume our forefathers (those radicals who signed the subversive ‘Declaration of Independence’) and throw their bones in Gitmo with us?
Is it me, or has everyone gone totally nuts since 9/11? Why teach us this stuff in elementary school, and then later tell us it is subversive? I feel like I’ve awakened to find myself in a bad science fiction novel.
Lincoln himself said “Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.” I take it Lincoln is now considered a subversive too.

The beautiful thing about these sites labeling American Citizens at domestic terrorists, is that it makes it easy to enslave everyone. In May 2008 when the Real ID Act rolls out we will all be enslaved (well except for those of us that refuse it…and we all know what we’ve been categorized as). I wonder when the congress is going to pass funding for massive federal prisons to house all of us. Or are they just going to bring back mass executions. Or maybe a throwback to Roman style torture in front of a crowd, pitting DT’s against lions or even big-balled-brainwashed patriots to the state.
The best thing is after 2008 China is going to be involved in an all out land war with the US so we don’t have much to worry about. They have the largest military and navy in the world. (Did you hear about the Chinese sub that surfaced 600 yards behind a US Carrier in the Pacific? They Carrier Group did not know it was there until they were hailed by the Chinese vessel. Yeah they’ve beat us on the military tech front as well.) They have the capability to knock out our satellites, to drop everyone of our planes out of the sky and to render the entire nation a sitting duck via the EMP. They have successfully given nuclear materials to Pakistan, Iran, North Korea. They have, with the help of the fat bastard in Washington, already ruined our nation’s economy for the working class (80% of voters). First comes economic defeat, then comes military defeat, then comes enslavement.
It’s going to happen after the 08 Olympics. It will start with a battle over Taiwan.

They probably haven’t caught enough real terrorists by monitoring The Google, illegal wiretapping the “dangerous” Mennonite anti-war types, or tracking the civil liberties radicals on the Internets. They’re all just hoping they can speak their first 10 words of Arabic before it’s time to retire. The problem with that (and Homeland Security generally) is twofold: First, you can’t kill an idea simply by killing people. Unless, of course, you’re willing to commit genocide and follow through. TO MANY PEOPLE WORRIED ABOUT SO LITTLE, WE HAVE HAD A DE-FACTO ID EVER SINCE SOCIAL SECURITY WAS CREATED, AND EACH TIME THE LAW CHANGED ALLOWING THE SSN TO BE USED FOR IDENTIFICATION, THE CONGRESS ALWAYS STATEED IN PRINT THIS IS NOT A NATIONAL ID, SO WHY NOT DEVELOPE ONE THAT CAN`T BE ABUSED AND CALL A SPAID, ( A SPAID) “FEDERAL ID CARD” WHAT IS EVERYONE HIDING FROM. JUST MAYBE WE COULD CLEAN UP EVERYONE`S CREDIT REPORT, STOPPING THE LARGEST ABUSE OF THE LABOR CLASS IN THIS COUNTRY.I THINK ITS TIME TO GIVE AMESITY TO THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE BEEN CAUGHT UP IN THESE COLLECTION COMPANIES SCHAMS, PERSUING THEM FOR BILLS THAT BY LAW ARE UNCOLLECTABLE, IF A REAL ID WAS IMPLEMENTED, I MEAN “REAL” NOT THIS BS/DRIVERS LICENSE, THEN ALL OF THE CREDIT COMPANIES AS WELL AS COLLECTION AGENCYS, WOULD ALSO HAVE TO VERFY THAT THE INDIVIDUALS THEY WERE PERSUING WERE THE CERTIFIED PERSON, THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE, CAUSING THESE FILES TO BECOME A MOOT POINT. AS FOR HOMELAND SECURITY, GIVE THEM A BREAK, GOD WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING THAT HOUSE IN SHAPE, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE HAVE CONGRESS TRYING TO DECIDE IF THEY VOTED FOR IT BEFORE THEY VOTED AGAINST IT, AND IF THEY DID THEY REALLY DIDN`T MEAN TO, THEY DIDN`T READ THE FINE PRINT. CONGRESS AS A WHOLE IS WHOM WE SHOULD HOLD ACCOUNTABLE FOR EVERYTHING, THEY DON`T MAKE A DEAL IF $$$$$$$ ARE NOT PRESENT, BY THE WAY READ THE BILLS BEFORE CONGRESS, THEY ARE MUCH MORE INTERESTING, THEY WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH, MIGHT EVEN MAKE YOU CRY, BUT ONE THING FOR SURE THEY USUALLY BECOME LAW!!!!!! The problem is, DD, that having a national ID will not clear up anyone’s credit. In fact, if you look at the record of DHS the have a habit of screwing up the credit and background information on people that they already have records on. And these people go through hell to try and get things cleared off of their records which is a frustrating job because DHS doesn’t give a shit that they got it wrong.

THE SSA IS IN SUCH A MESS THAT THEY DON`T EVEN KNOW WHOES ON 2ND BASE. THEY HAVE NO WAY AT THIS TIME TO CERTIFY THE AUTHENTICITY OF ANYONE TO ANY SS NUMBER EXCEPT BY A SIGNITURE,WITHOUT A FACE, FINGERPRINT, IRRUS SCAN. THE REAL-ID ACT IF COULD HAVE BEEN INACTED PROPERLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED BY LAW ALL FINANCIAL INSTUTIONS, COLLECTIONHE AGENCYS, AND CREDIT REPORTING AGENCYS ALSO ADHEAR TO THE LAW BY ALSO CERTIFYING THE SS NUMBER, WHICH CAN NOT BE DONE MEANING THAT THEY CAN NOT POST ANY INFORMATION PERTAINING TO YOUR CREDIT REPORT WITHOUT FIRST VERFYING THAT THE AUTHENTICITY OF YOUR SSN IS IN FACT YOU. IF SSA CAN NOT VERIFY, THEN NO ONE ELSE CAN. AND THE LAW REGARDING CREDIT, STATES THAT THEY MUST BE ABLE TO VERIFY THAT THE DEBT IS IN FACT YOURS WITHOUT DOUBT OR THEY MUST REMOVE IT, OR FACE FINES AND OR A LAW SUITE FROM YOU. IF YOU FOLLOW WHAT MICHAEL HAS BEEN REPORTING YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT SSA HAS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF FALSE SS NUMBERS, FROM CITIZENS NOT IMMAGRANTS. I have been following Michael’s articles. I’m not sure if you’re for or against Real ID and, really, that’s up to you.
I’m against it. Pure and simple. If we give them a little they will not be happy with it and will take it to another step, and then another until all your privacy and freedom is gone. That’s where we’re headed and that’s what I’m protesting against.
They show us a method that is supposed to ‘cure’ all the kinks that is in the system (and I honestly doubt it will. As you stated no one is able to sort it all out and never will be able to, mainly because our governement agencies don’t like talking to each other–at least not truthfully). The problem is, if you say “okay” and let them then they come at you with another reason why you should just ‘give them a little more’ and then, after that — why not, it’s just a little more — they want a little more than that.
Soon we’ve nickled and dimed out way out of our freedoms and our dignity and that’s what I am fighting against. If I say NO now it will prevent alot of heartache in the future.

GERI, Against or for is not the issue the Law is in place, and the vote was almost unanimous, but saying that, let me go further and explain why I believe that at the end to all this madness, we the people will benefit from this Bill, before a REAL-ID card will ever be issued, and it will be one that even you will applaud.
The reason that the REAL ID Act explicitly identifies the drivers licenses was mostly based on the 9/11 Commission Report that identified them as being used as the ID by the terrorist when boarding the planes. Actually since 1976 after the Tax Reform Act (P.L.94-455) making the(SSN) a requirement by the states for applicants to furnish was meant that (17) of the terrorist that acquired a drivers license had to submit a federal (SSN) first. Of coarse The 9/11 Commission would not have researched the above bill before writing their report but it seems that whom ever wrote this bill should have emphasized that issue on social security making it the primary concern. Matter of fact ever since 1962 when the Internal Revenue Services adopted the (SSN) as its official Taxpayer Identification Number, congress gradually allowed it to became the national (De-facto ID) even though they constantly disputed that claim. But every few years there after, other federal and state agencies including all financial organizations followed suite and joined in the long trail of revisions that allowed them to utilize its identity certification. Where as today you can`t even get your utilities or phone turned on without giving your (SSN). Further proof of its de-facto ID statist has been obvious such as bank accounts, rental agreements, utilities ,matter of fact you can not get any kind of an contractual agreement without being required to give your social security number. This federal identification card and number that identifies our personal retirement portfolio has become the most abused, misused and stolen identification instrument we own and the easiest to falsify. The reason the government can`t authorize its use as a Federal ID or any type of ID as they have constantly claimed it is not a ID, is very simple and that is they can`t certify the identity themselves. Furthermore the 9/11 Commission Report stated that all instruments used for identification had to be retrofitted to fit the Nation Security standards.
The Social Security Administration that over sees the ID system does not have the ability to identify the individuals that they have on file, without a picture, finger print, iris scan or any means of identifying any of the individuals. The federal government must first secure the social security identification system before they can require the states to retrofit their drivers licenses as well as other documentation because by law the ( ssn ) it is part and party to the Drivers License application .
That is why the federal government has no choice but to implement the Real ID Act with a new, state of the art ID System that cannot be duplicated, stolen, or counterfeited, and this can only be done by biometric imaging data of each individual to be able to secure our personal identity. The combination of fingerprints, iris scans and other imaging identifiers will fully secure and certify an individual’s identity and truly protect us. The reason there is so much negativeness regarding the REAL-ID ACT is because it unravels our entire identification systems, which none are adequate, and no one in congress wants to tackle that nest of bees. But this BILL THE REAL ID ACT IS GOING TO BE THE KEY THAT WILL OPEN PANDORAS BOX !

I read these comments and am very surprised,on how much thought you put in to your answers, now I understand what the problem is , actually no one really cares what they write . Just “WORDS” because no one understands one dam thing about what going on around you. May be thats why you get no comment back from the host,Michael. I would love to have some serious debate, with individuals, that actually care about changing things in our Government, because it can be done, but not by slamming everything with bullshi____________________!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

First of all I am not interested in what your personal comments are, but you readers are and that was what I was referring to. Its not my writing skills that has to do with any of the issues, I just wanted to see if you would comment and you did. You are not much of a adversary my friend, if that is your level of contestation, I was right and also wrong at the same time to assume any serious debate coming from one that has but one train of thought. Now I understand why your readers, make the ridiculous comments they do. Move over Michael you have given me a challenge and you have made my day.
Remember you are the one that decided to infringe, on a very important web site “Homeland Security” making a mockery of a very important Government Department that was established for the safty of our citzens. Your skill in writing, was never question by me, only your comments, in which you claimed to “Satirize” Homeland Security or as if to create a “lampoon” in other words to be creative and write a composition that imitates sombody`s style in a humorous way not against issues of principle, and safety of our citizens. “YOUR PRINCIPLES OF COMPOSITION CHARACTERIZED ALL YOUR WORKS” that was what I was referring to, like:Michael Hampton | May 17, 2007 11:30 pm
The problem with that (and Homeland Security generally) is twofold: First, you can’t kill an idea simply by killing people. Unless, of course, you’re willing to commit genocide and follow through. But somebody will remember that idea and pass it along. Second, declaring war on a tactic is ridiculous.
AND YOU CALL THIS ANSWER A SATIRIZED STATEMENT. You are inciting individuals to follow your way of thinking as if you were a cult leader, and you do it with exaggerated zeal.
AND THEN GOD SPEAKS:You’ll get a comment from me when I have something to say.
In the meantime, I suggest you work on your writing skills. You’ll need them. :)
Thanks Michael for those words of wisdom or shared words of your satirzed statements. I will keep watching to see if you decide to follow the principles you claim, so far you are not. I am getting ready to protect the public from Homeland Stupidity, your claimed to be stage for your satire “wit” for a upcoming standup comedian or should I say sit down one. So far your wit, and comical jesters have not been entertaining to us the majority and matter of fact I believe your cult is dwindling, maybe you will have somthing to hit me with, and maybe I can improve on my writing skills, if your comments had substance.

CALL TO ACTION!
to fix this problem is simple………….
step 1: herd ALL our legislators into the Capitol building
step 2: lock the doors and windows
step 3: douse the building with flammable material
step 4: ignite
that should give the NEXT group that crawl out from under rocks food for thought if they do not listen to our collective voices………if not……..
repeat steps 1 thru 4……….see?……….very simple..they may be slow…but they’ll eventually catch on or quit crawling out from under rocks………problem solved…………..
There………….I should score 100%..*LOL*………

I’m a domestic terrorist. No wait just because I said it does that make it so? I am god. No I am Nero. Wait … uh no I am Leonid Breshnev. No, no I think I am a dolphin. Or maybe . . . m m m BEER!
The U.S. government is totally out of control. I am so glad I have lived and fully enjoyed life up to now. I get the distinct impression that life in this crazy world is about to change radically for the worst courtesy of the Bush neocon gang. I am also glad I do not have kids – oh so glad. I would be worried sick about their future with all this Orwellian hooplah taking place right before our eyes. It’s as if Bush actualy read 1984, which we all know he didn’t, and is putting it into action page by page. It like Huxley, the founding fathers and all the other feared. Ike told us to beware of the military industrial complex. I wonder why he said that? RING, RING, RING – IT’S THE CLUE PHONE AND IT’S FOR AMERICANS!

well I have just run through the comments, some of what I have written has not been published, are we censored here? I’ll go on. America foriegn policy has caused much misery in the world. Americans put themselves first second and third while the rest of us are draged in the dirt. One of you mentioned Ike Eisenhour. It was under his instructions that the Congo independance movement was destroyed, its new president was assasinated. This resulted in Cuban mercenaries being involved in the Congo, and Russia was given an excuse to enter into the politics of Africa. What a mess Africa is now. Perhaps America should become isolationist, and let the rest of the world go to hell. Imagine the whole world becoming like Palestine civil war.Iraq civil war, just withold food aid send more guns and ammunition and let them killthemselves off. David Morris

Hey David, among other things you stated “Imagine the whole world becoming like Palestine civil war.Iraq civil war, just withold food aid send more guns and ammunition and let them killthemselves off.”
Actually, you shoud read Strauss… the progenitor of the neocons. He espoused ‘constructive chaos’ — what you describe. The global powers (including the neocons) utilize the strategy of encouraging conglict between players (e.g., by supplying arms to both sides. You see, America can’t just ‘let the world go to hell’, it must make sure that it goes to hell. That is a strategic goal. That’s like Negroponte’s little death squads in Iraq. Continue to foment internecine strife. If they fight each other they don’t fight you. Plus pretend it is al qaeda, not an insurgency against an occupation by an illegal force.

A request:
Is it possible to make a bumper-sticker-sized domestic terrorist image to download? I would love to have one on my car.

Ask and you shall receive.
This image is 11 inches by 3 inches at 72 dpi and should be ready to go. (Your printer might want it a few pixels smaller in one direction or the other, but this shouldn’t be a problem.)

It’s sad that Bush has outright preached against the constitution. Under oath they swore to uphold this document in order to obtain leadership positions, for this reason they must be impeached!
Bush is the biggest terrorist to the constitution and our country!
Impeach the Bush Administration.

i scored 90%
Your score is 90%
You are a domestic terrorist — according to the US government. In fact, you scored so high that your name is likely in one of the super-secret government databases and your phone and email usage may be monitored. After all, the government needs to watch you to keep everyone else safe. Those “rights” you claim to have were exchanged for “Security,” so stop complaining about them.
I am a die hard constitutionalist and I am ohio militia.
I’m on the list several times over and proud of it.
I believe the founders were called terrorists, were they not ?
I’m in good company.

4 years ago I named my oldest boy William Blackstone. Now whenever my wife and he go thru the airport they are automatically flagged as terror suspects and subjected to extra scrutiny. What a nightmare. I could guard weapons of mass destruction whilst in the military, but can’t be trusted on an airplane – I just hope the New Wold Order still let’s me eat sushi in the gulag…

I only scored a 25% on the quiz you referenced; perhaps I do believe in the state having a degree of power over it’s citizens. But, for me, it’s inexcusable that in the eyes of the US government referencing the Constitution, which binds and preserves the innermost rights of the individual, is akin to owning explosives. Questioning the government is our job on an occasion, but I do believe that many rules are in place for a reason. I don’t agree that our country is in a state of rapid “decline”; it may be that increased government control is actually a defensive measure in the modernized international climate, where war can happen in a heartbeat. But if they ever try to alter to the Constitution, you can bet I’ll be standing out there on Capitol Hill, holding all the posters I need to make them realize they are making a huge mistake.

They don’t have to alter the Constitution; the 535 drunken sailors can just ignore it when writing the laws, and if anybody complains, have their nine robed jokers misinterpret it out of existence. Do you really think the government still considers itself bound by the Constitution in any significant way? Do you really think they consider the Constitution to mean what it plainly means?
