Supporting the Electronic Frontier Foundation

June 11, 2007 @ Michael Hampton9 Comments

When it comes to freedom on the Internet, the Electronic Frontier Foundation is at the forefront of the battle. Whether it’s the national ID card, digital rights management, online privacy or domestic spying, EFF is doing the hard work of defending against those who would abuse the power of government against the people.

That’s why I give them money.

And I just got a nice letter back from them for my recent contribution.

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your generous donation of $ 55.00 to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which we received on 5/8/07. EFF is a 501(c)(3) organization, and EFF’s federal tax ID number is 04-3091431.

Your donation enables EFF attorneys, technologists, and activists to continue to protect free speech, fair use, innovation and privacy in the online world, as we have done since our founding in July of 1990. Keep up with our work by subscribing to our weekly electronic newsletter, EFFector, at http://www.eff.org. And become involved! Check out our action center to see the latest way you can help at http://action.eff.org.

Once again, thanks for your support.

Sincerely,

Nicole Nguyen
Membership Coordinator

PS: Your gift is tax deductible as allowed by law. EFF respects the confidentiality of its supporters and we do not lend, rent or sell our lists of donors at any time. No goods or services were provided in consideration of this contribution.

The history of how EFF got started is quite the interesting read. The Secret Service severely overreacted to a bunch of teenage hackers ripping off BellSouth (now AT&T) for an electronic copy of a $14 document.

I’ve been meaning to give them money for quite a while and for various reasons never quite got around to it. I won’t forget again.

This is a good opportunity to point out to those of you who think that generally Jews are the problem, that, most of these Great Patriot lawyers are Jewish. Their contribution to preserve Liberty CAN NOT be denied!

$55? Jeez, I give them thousands a year. Along with the NRA. Hedging my bets against the future no matter which way it goes.

Well I guess that Freedom of speech is not Freedom of speech for all. Again, I will address this forum. What happened to DDHORTON? Was he blocked from making a comment based upon his knowledge or are you just afraid that his knowledge and capability are far superior to yours. The way I see it, this at least gave some credibility to your website and some truly important knowledge. DDHORTON is not going anywhere Michael, he is twice your age and his organization and knowledge are a privlege and a true inspiration to us all. I for one am in awe of his superb wit and insitefullness. What this kind of forum DDHORTON is doing produces a true and honest discussion about all the topics you are posting. What is so wrong with that? Isn’t that what this country was founded on. On honest discussion and debate? We donot believe in any party and for the record are a non-political organization. Why not join us in an honest discussion, instead of squashing the very freedom DDHorton and a whole slew of people represent? I can assure you sir, that he is not going anywhere and you will not be able to get rid of HIS VOICE. This is much larger than you. Why not, with no disrepect intended on this comment.”Try it Mikey, you might just like it”.

    A TRUE PATRIOT!!

What exactly does someone who was ejected from this site for making threats of violence against its owner have to do with the Electronic Frontier Foundation?

If you want to discuss issues, I’m all ears. I only ask that you try to make sense.

Is there truly free speech?? Not really, what you say can be held against you in a court of law. The Police read people these rights. You have the right to remain silent. You have. This is a great sight. You are free here to speak your mind. It is just great!!! That is a great cause to support. It’s great to be American.
