Porcupine Freedom Festival

The only place on the planet can you find hundreds of liberty loving activists who are actually doing something to advance the cause of freedom is right here in Gilford, N.H., at the fifth annual Porcupine Freedom Festival.

All week, from Monday through Sunday, this Free State Project event plays host to New Hampshire natives, project members who have moved or are planning to move to the state, and prospective members who are considering the project’s purpose to move as many as 20,000 activists for freedom to the same state to work for greater liberty. As of now, over 8,000 have signed up, and over 500 of those have already moved to New Hampshire.

TheNew Hampshire Union Leader published a report on the event today and misquoted yours truly.

He wears a pin proclaiming that he is one of the “First 1,000″ to make the move to New Hampshire, as does Michael Hampton, publisher of the Homeland Stupidity Web site, which pokes fun at bureaucratic ineptness.

“I came here to have more freedom. I wanted to work in a state that’s not burdened with a lot of restrictions,” said Hampton, who moved to New Hampshire from Wisconsin 18 months ago and says that as far as he’s concerned the state has lived up to it’s [sic] billing as a good place for free-thinking libertarians.

Hampton said that he was also a strong supporter of Ron Paul’s presidential bid and that his minimalist government ideas resound well with Free Staters. — New Hampshire Union Leader

Strange, I don’t recall saying anything of the sort, though I certainly agree with the statement. (I also wonder if the copy editor was asleep on the job.)

I also published a video this morning about PorcFest so far.

This weekend, the fun really starts, with speeches, vendors, seminars, live local and regional bands, White Mountains hiking, and much more of interest to natives and project members alike. All that’s required is a love of liberty. If you’re in the area, drop by Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford. Admission (excluding campsite or other accommodations) is $20 for all weekend.

I like the guy in the fun tent. His love of beer is something I can identify with. Keep an eye out for susan28. I have a feeling she won’t be hard to find if she’s there.

Looks like your beard is a little scruffier. You’ve been doing some hard livin’ on that trail. How’s the ankle?
