If you’re a WordPress user, you know that the software comes with two themes, called “classic” and “default.” They’re both horribly ugly.
So one day I was talking to WordPress creator Matt Mullenweg and he suggested I should make a replacement for the classic theme that isn’t quite so ugly.
Here it is.
If you want to see a live blog running the theme, visit Make Stupidity History.
And if you want a clean, simple, floating width, two column theme that’s easy to customize, Classic II is your theme. Classic II has now been updated to work with WordPress Widgets, an upcoming feature of WordPress which allows you to manage your sidebar by dragging and dropping icons around.
You install it just like any other theme: Upload the classic-ii folder from the download into your wp-content/themes folder on your web host. Then go to Presentation and activate the theme.
You can also upload a header image to the theme directory and it will replace the header text, like as shown in the screenshot above. Just call it header.png and upload it to the wp-content/themes/classic-ii folder.
